VİZYONUMUZ

 

Biz ARC olarak teknolojiyi modern dünyanın büyüsü olarak görüyoruz. Bilim, fen ve teknoloji ile geleceği yaratacak olanlar ise bu yüzyılın sihirbazları. Bu sebeple bilim, mühendislik ve teknoloji alanlarında geleceğin sihirbazlarını eğitmeyi ve onları merak, yaratıcılık, risk alma, yeniliğe açıklık, kendine güven, iletişim ve liderlik becerileri ile donatmayı amaçlıyoruz.

HAKKIMIZDA

Takımımız RCRoboTeam adıyla 2015-2016 sezonunda kuruldu. Çaylak (rookie) bir takım olarak New York City Regional’da Rookie Inspiration ödülünü kazandık. İkinci yılımızda ise Saint Pulcherie Lisesinin robotik takımı ve diğer okullardan öğrencilerle  birleşerek 80 kişiyi bulan SPARC’ı oluşturduk. 2017-2018 sezonuna Robert Kolej öğrencilerinden oluşan bağımsız bir takım olarak katılmaya karar verdik ve ARC 6014 olarak çalışmalara başladık.

OUR ROBOTS

12 hOURs

 

İstanbul Off-Season 2018 için yaptığımız robot hem switch hem de scale’a oynamak için dizayn edildi. Robotu yapmak için talihsiz nedenlerden dolayı sadece 12 saatimiz vardı ve bu yüzden asansör sisteminin sadece bir kısmını birleştirebildik. Bu durum bizi scale’e oynabilmekten alıkoysa bile Switchlere oynamamıza engel değildi.

Aslına bakılacak olursa, robotumuz küpleri almakta ve Switchlere bırakmakta iyi iş çıkardı. Asansör sistemi de oldukça güvenilir ve ihtiyaç duyulduğunda yeterince hızlıydı. Yeni geliştirdiğimiz intake sistemi de robotumuzun iyi performansına yardım eden büyük bir etkendi. Kolları geniş bir hareket alanına sahipti ve tamamen kendimizin geliştirdiği çark kutusu sayesinde 90 dereceden biraz daha fazla olacak ölçüde geriye gelebiliyordu. Bu hareket bize küpü aldığımız zaman koruma sağladı ve küpü düşürmenin olası riskini ortadan kaldırdı. Ayrıca söylememiz gerekir ki bu robotumuz için özel ve drive base tasarlamış ve geliştirmiştik fakat parçalar elimize geldiğinde beklenmedik sorunlarla karşılaştığımızdan ve vaktimizin olmadığından çözüm bulamadık. Yaptığımız bu robot, özel çark kutusu ve asansör sistemi barındırdığı için şu ana kadarki en gelişmiş versiyondu.

FIRST Power Up

Bu küpler daha sonra ya vaultlara fırlatılıyor ya robotun kolu az bir miktarda kaldırılarak switchlere bırakılıyor ya da daha fazla kaldırılarak scale’a kadar fırlatılabiliyordu. Böyle bir durum sadece alüminyum profilden oluşan kollara bağlı güçlü gear motorlar sayesinde sağlanabilirdi. Bizim bu robotu yaparken yaklaşımımız güvenilirliğini ve verimliliğini maksimum seviyeye çıkarmaktı. Bu sayede robotumuza (ve kendimize) her maçta en iyisini yapabileceğimiz üzere güvenebilirdik.

 

Robotumuz tamamen power cube görevlerini tamamlamaya odaklanmıştı. Redline motorlar tarafından güçlüce döndürülen 2 adet esnek tekerlik içeren intake mekanizması sayesinde power cubelar adeta robotumuza vakumlanıyordu!

Mr. Pink

 

Bu robot yükleme şeritlerinden çarkları alarak hava gemisine koymak için tasarlanmıştır. Hava gemilerine tek-yönlü bir rulman mekanizması kullanarak tırmanabilmektedir. Tırmanma mekanizması, bir kanca ve kablo bağlayıcı sistemi ile daha sağlam bir kavrama sağlamaktadır. Pink Panther (Pembe Panter) mühendislikte mükemmelliğin ve sadeliğin birleşmesi sonucu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu spesifik dizayn sayesinde hem çarklarda hem de hava üssüne zamanında çıkmakta etkili bir performans kazanmaktadır. Pink Panther’in en dikkat çekici özelliklerinden biri ise tahta çark derleme mekanizmasıdır.

Tahtanın alüminyuma göre daha hafif olması, Pink Panther’i diğer bütün robotlardan daha hızlı olmasını sağlar. Altı tekerleğe sahip ve dört tane CIM motoru sayesinde hareket etmektedir. Tırmanma mekanizması, şu ana kadar yapılmış dizaynların en iyisidir: 1.2 metre ip ile tırmanma süresi altı saniyedir. Pink Panther üç haftada, Solidworks kullanılarak dizayn edilmiştir. Bu robot iki haftada yapılmıştır ve toplam olarak, son dokunuşlarla birlikte altı haftada bitirilmiştir.

FRC Game: FIRST Steamworks

 

Bu robot RC Robotics’in SPARC isimli daha büyük bir takımdayken yapılmıştır. Hava gemisine çarkları taşıyabiliyordu ve oyun sonunda tırmanabiliyordu. Aynı zamanda aşağıdaki hedefe yakıtları taşıyıp bırakabiliyordu.

FRC Game: Rack'n Roll

 

Bu robot halka şeklindeki oyun parçalarını sahanın ortasındaki metal düzeneğe yerleştirebiliyordu. İki panel arasındaki uzun tutucu ise oyun sonunda diğer robotları kaldırmak için kullanılıyordu.

Mrs. Robort

Mrs. Robort (Bayan Robort), insan oyunculardan toplar alabilir ve onları potaların içine atabilir. Dik bir asansör, topları havaya kaldırır ve onları atış mekanizmasına yollar. İki tane dönen silindir, topları kavrar ve ivmelendirir.

Mr. Robort (Bay Robort) topları yüksek ve düşük potalara atabilmektedir. Bu robot bir çok savunma aşabilir. Bunlara kule kapısı, hendek, asma köprü ve alçak bariyerde dahildir.

Anadolu “Maker” Hareketi

 

Bizler, teknoloji çağının içine doğmuş bireyler olarak, verimliliğimizi arttırmak için, gelişim ve değişimleri daima takip etmeliyiz. Tıpkı alfabeyi öğrendiğimiz gibi kodlamayı da öğrenmeli ve hayat standartlarımızı geliştirecek ürünler üretmeliyiz. Ülkemizin gelişim ve ilerlemesini garantiye almak için çocuklara küçük yaşta teknoloji eğitimleri vermeli ve bilimsel yaklaşımlarını destekleyici materyallerle geliştirmeliyiz.  

 

 

 

 

Bu amaçlarla, ‘Anadolu “Maker” Hareketi’ adlı bir proje başlattık ve Maker Hareketini Türkiye’nin kırsal kesimine yaymak için çalışmalara başladık. İlk durağımız Merzifon’du. 18-22 Haziran 2018 aralığında, 18 Robert Kolej öğrencisi ve 2 öğretmen danışman olarak projemize başladık. Bu bir hafta içerisinde, 3 ana odağımız vardı: STEM (bilim, technology, mühendislik, matematik), İngilizce ve yaratıcı çalışmalar.  

Sabahları İngilizce derslerimiz vardı. Bu derslerde İngilizceyi anlatabileceğimiz en yaratıcı şekillerde aktarmaya çalıştık. Yalnızca İnglizice müfredatıyla harika uyuşan oyunlar yaratmakla kalmadık, aynı zamanda çocuklarla beraber onları İngilizce derslerine aktif olarak katılmaya iten posterler ve projeler tasarladık. Bu şekilde, İngilizce seviyelerini geliştirmeye çabaladık. İkinci olarak, çocuklarla drama, “Destination Imagination”, spor ve müzik gibi konularda etkinlikler yaptık. Bu dört aktiviteyi de deneyimledikten sonra çocuklar devam eden günlerde hangi aktiviteyi yapmak istediklerini seçtiler. Karar verdikten sonra bir hafta boyunca o grupta yer alarak o konu hakkında kendilerini geliştirdiler. Ana konumuz olan “STEM” eğitimini öğle arasından sonra yapıyorduk. Bu sayede tüm çocukların bu çok önemli eğitime odaklanmak için yüksek enerjiye sahip olduklarından emin oluyorduk. Bu derslerdeki önceliğimiz çocuklara oynadıkları oyunları kodlayabileceklerini ve aslında teknoloji ve kodlamayı kullanarak simulasyon, hikaye yaratma ve interaktif sanat gibi istedikleri her şeyi yapabileceklerini göstermekti. Sponsorlarımızın çocuklar için sağladığı basit “Sratch” (Massachusetts Institute of Technology tarafından çocuklar için tasarlanan görsel bir kodlama dili) kitaplarını dağıttık ve eğitimimiz süresince de bu kitapları kullandık.

ARCOPOLIS


Arcopolis, 8-12 yaş aralığındaki çocuklar için tasarladığımız, “mühendislik” temasında bir kutu oyunu. Oyunun asıl amacı çocuklara mühendislerin çalıştığı geniş alanı tanıtmak. Mühendislik hakkında ilginç gerçekler, resimler ve yeni kelimeler kullanarak, çocuklarda mühendisliğe karşı bir ilgi yaratmayı planlıyoruz.

 

 

Oyundan pek çok kutu bastırarak, detaylı bir oyun kılavuzu yazarak ve bunları ilkokullara bağışlayarak çocukların içinde mühendisliğe ve teknolojiye karşı bir kıvılcım yakmaya çalışıyor ve yaktığımız bu kıvılcımın ileride içlerinde mühendislik aşkına dönüşeceğini umuyoruz. Daima gelişmeyi hedefliyoruz ve çocukları mühendislik alanında bilgilendirmeye çalışıyor ve onların ileride hevesle çalışacaklarına inanıyoruz. Bir başka deyişle, mühendisliği çocuk oyuncağına çevirmeyi hedefliyoruz!

ARC Footprints (Ayak İzleri)

 

RC Footprints projesi diğer takımlara ve yeni FIRST üyelerine yardımcı olabileceğine inandığımız deneyim, bilgi ve önerilerimizi paylaşmayı amaçladığımız kısa videolardan oluşmakta. Konumuz dahilinde akla gelebilecek her alanda video çekmeyi diliyoruz.

Braille Menü

ARC 6014 olarak çıktığımız yolculukta, daima teknolojiyi topluma ulaşmak ve gelişim ve değişim adına kullanmayı hedefledik. Bu amaçla yeni bir proje gerçekleştirdik.

 

Öğrendik ki, görme engelli vatandaşlarımız dışarıda yemek yemeye çıktıklarında, bazı restoranlar onlara menüyü okumak yerine ellerinde kalmışları satmaya çalışıyorlarmış. Bu sorunu çözmek için bir proje başlattık. Cafe TriBeCa’da başlattığımız projemizde Braille alfabeli 3D menüler bastırdık. Bu şekilde, umuyoruz ki görme engelli vatandaşlarımıza yardımcı olabiliriz ve toplumla daha iç içe, tek başlarına yetebilen ve zorluklarla karşılaşmadan bir hayat yaşamalarına destek olabiliriz. Bir robotik takımı olarak, teknolojiyi asla tüketilecek bir şey olarak görmedik. Aksine, onu daima diğer insanların hayatlarını geliştirebileceğimiz bir yol olarak gördük.

Scouting App

Katıldığımız pek çok turnuvada diğer takımların robotları hakkında “izcilik yapma”nın ne kadar önemli olduğunu fark ettik. Kağıda not almak veya google form kullanmak belli bir dereceye kadar elbet yardımcı oluyordu ancak tüm takım üyelerinin kullanabileceği ortak bir platform olması herkesin işine yarardı.

Hayvanlar için Protez Bacak

Bacakları olmayan hayvanlara yardım etmeye çalışan merhametli Hasan Bey’den ilham aldığımız projemizde Hasan Bey’in fikrini geliştirmeye kara verdik. Hemen Hasan Bey ile iletişime geçtik ve bu konuda olabildiğince yardımcı olmak istediğimizi söyledik. Olumlu geri dönüş almamızla beraber, çabucak çalışmaya başladık.

 

Bazı uzuvları olmayan kedi ve köpekler hakkında pek çok video izledikten sonra hayvanlara yardım etme isteğimizi teknoloji bilgilerimizle birleştirmeye karar verdik. Metallerle çalışmak yerime prostetik bacakları Solidworks kullanarak tasarladık. Tasarladığımız her prostetik, hayvan barınağındaki hayvanlar için özel tasarımdı. 3D yazıcımızı kullanarak bu dizaynlarımızı bastırdık ve daha sonra tekerlek gibi önemli malzemeleri ekledik. Dizaynlarımızla şimdiye kadar 5 hayvana yardım ettik. Ama amacımız şimdiden sonra haftada 3, yani ayda 12 hayvana ulaşmak. Bu şekilde onlara yardı edebilir ve hayatlarını daha mutlu geçirmelerini sağlayabiliriz.

Code Week

Code Week, okulumuzda yenilikçi kültürü ve keşif tutkusunu kutlayan bir etkinliktir. Bir bakıma RC Maker Faire’a benzer, ancak okulumuzdaki öğrencilere programlamanın tanıtılmasına odaklanılmıştır.

 

Bu haftaki aktiviteler arasında bir labirent, uçan otomatik dronlar, 3D tasarım ve baskı, mobil uygulama geliştirme, Arduino programlama ve otomatik bir sumo robot dövüşü öğrenme için bir robot programlanması yer alıyor. Ayrıca, öğrencileri motive etmek ve bu alandaki uygulamaların çeşitliliğini göstermek için farklı mühendis ve kuruluşlardan ek sunumlar da bulunmaktadır. ARC olarak, RC Makers’ın etkinliği organize etmesine ve robotik, kodlama ve sanal gerçeklik hakkında atölyelerimizi arkadaşlarımıza sunmasına yardımcı olduk. Aynı zamanda FRC ve FLL hakkında FIRST yarışmalarına ilgi ve katılımı arttırmak için atölye çalışmaları yaptık. Son iki yılda, etkinlik çok başarılı oldu ve birçok kişi robot ve bilgisayar bilimleriyle ilgilenmeye yardımcı oldu. Elektrik mühendisliği, 3D tasarım ya da bilgisayar bilimleri ile ilgilenmeyen birçok insanın bize gelip, RC Makers Club ve ARC’ye nasıl katkıda bulunabileceklerini sorduğumuza şaşırdık. Her iki kulübümüze de uygulama sayısı arttı ve birçok kişi bu becerilerin önemini tartıştı.

Kitap ve Kıyafet Bağışları

Kullanılmayan takım formaları ve tişörtlerini Kars’taki ilkokul çocuklarına bağışladığımız bir yardım etkinliği düzenlemek için okulumuz Interact kulübü ile işbirliği yaptık. Kim olduğumuza, ne yaptığımıza, FIRST’in ne olduğuna ve STEM’i nasıl takip edebileceklerine dair bir mektup yazdık.

 

Kars’ta okulda kütüphane kurmaya yardımcı olmak için takım üyelerimizden de kitap topladık. Hikâye kitaplarından şiirlere, bilim kitaplarından romanlara, Kars’taki arkadaşlarımızı yeni dünyalara tanıtmaya ve ilham almasına yardımcı olacak birçok kitap topladık. Her kitaba, öğrencilerin başarıya giden yolda rehberlik etmelerine yardımcı olacak umuduyla el yazısı notları ekledik. Robert Kolej ailesi olarak sizin için bir kütüphane oluşturmak istedik. Okumaktan keyif aldığımız kitapları bir araya getirdik, onları da beğeneceğinizi umuyoruz. En büyük dileğimiz, bu kitapları okuyarak yeni dünyaları keşfedip yeni bakış açılarıyla tanıştırabilmektir öğrencileri. Robotik ekibimiz arasında yaptığımız bir tartışmada, kitapların bizi sorular sormaya, merak etmeye ve araştırma yapmaya teşvik eden en önemli şeyler olduğu fikrindeydik. Edebiyatta, sanatta, bilimde, matematikte veya teknoloji kitaplarında her zaman ilgilendiğimiz konular hakkında daha fazla şey öğrenmemiz için bir yer yaratır. Bu kitaplarla yeni dünyaları keşfedeceğinizi ve yeni kavramları anlamaya çalışacağınızı umuyoruz. Bilim, teknoloji ya da başka bir konuda ilerleyerek kendinizi geliştirebilir ve sınırlarınızı zorlayabilirsiniz. Okumayı sev ve tadını çıkar!

Okulumuzdaki Diğer Kulüplerle yardımlaşma

Ekibimizin ana hedeflerinden biri, öğrencileri gidebildiğimiz şekilde aydınlatmaktır. Takım olarak, okulumuzda diğer kulüplerle işbirliği yaparak başladık. Diğer kulüplerle yaptığımız bu işbirlikleri sayesinde, teknolojinin üzerinde büyük etkisi olabilecek alanları okulumuzdaki arkadaşlarımıza göstermeye çalışıyoruz.

 

Örneğin, Junior Achievement Club ile ekibimizin bir üyesi olan Can İvit, şarj kablosunun aşınmasını önleyen bir ürün tasarlayan “Şarj Yardımı” adlı bir ürün oluşturdu. Diğer ekiplerle yaptığımız bu işbirliklerinden de birçok şey öğrendik. Örneğin, RC Makers ve ekibimiz RC Maker Faire ve Coding Week gibi çeşitli etkinliklerde birlikte çalıştılar. Bu etkinliklerde birlikte yaptık; nasıl paylaşacağımızı, ekibimizi nasıl büyüteceğimizi ve belirli bir hedefe farklı zekayı nasıl kullanacağımızı öğrendik.

 

 

Aydın Topluma Hizmet Projesi

2017 yazında ARC Robotics ekibi üyeleri, Aydın Germencik’te gerçekleşen çeşitli toplumsal katılım projelerine aktif olarak katıldı.
Bu proje, ilkokul ve ortaokul çocukları ile sanat, tiyatro, spor, müzik ve teknoloji gibi alanlarda çalışmayı amaçladı. Projenin bir hafta boyunca; Çocukların yeni tutkuları keşfetmelerine, iletişim becerilerini geliştirmelerine ve ilham almamıza yardımcı olduk.

Projeye katılan 100 çocuğun hepsi STEM’i tanıma fırsatı buldu. Temel amacımız, onlara kodlamanın temellerini öğretmek, teknolojiyle faaliyetlerimizi tamamlamak ve bilimde daha bilgili olmaktı. Ülkemizin kırsal kesimlerinde gerçekleştirdiğimiz projeleri tamamladıktan sonra, çocuklara daha sonra STEM’i takip etmeleri için ilham vermeyi ve aynı zamanda da daha fazla teknolojiye sahip olmak için kızları güçlendirmeyi hedefledik.
Her çocuk odaya biraz utangaçlık ile girmişlerdi, ama onlardan önce gadget’lara baktıklarında çok fazla merak duyuyorlardı. Her aktivite ile, teknolojiye daha aşina oldular.
Dünyanın dört bir yanındaki çocukların, küçük memleketlerinden gelen Sanal Gerçeklik gözlükleriyle harika anıtları görmek için “seyahat” etmelerine yardımcı olduk. Bu yeni teknolojiye girdiğinde gözlerinin nasıl parladığını gördük. Müzik ve eğlenceyi birleştiren çocuklar, Makey Makey ile etkinliklerini tamamladı. 10 fen deneyini tamamlayabildik. Her deneyde; Biber ve sabun deneyi ya da nişasta ve su olmayan newton sıvı gibi basit deneylerin arkasındaki karmaşık bilimsel geçmişi keşfetme şansına sahiptik. Çocukların heyecanını çok sayıda oyunla kodladıkça, çocukların heyecanını gördüğümüz gibi inanılmaz bir deneyim oldu. Çizik. Futbol oyunlarından konsere, favori etkinliklerini ve hobilerini kodladılar. Projenin sonunda, birkaç çocuk oyun geliştiricileri olmak istediğinden emindi! Çocuklara gelecekte STEM’i takip etmeleri için ilham verdiğimiz gibi, biz de FIRST ideallerini kavradık. Proje katılımcılarımızın yarattığı oyunlara bir göz atın. 5 günlük atölye çalışmasının sonunda çocuklar son kodlama projelerini sundular.

 



About ARC #6014

Our team has its roots in RC Roboteam, established in 2015. In 2015, we participated in Turkish Offseason and New York City Regional and won the Rookie Inspiration award in the New York City Regional. A year after, we expanded and became a new team SPaRC: A joint team consisting of Lycee Sainte-Pulcherie and Robert College. The teams united to make the best use of their strengths. As SPaRC, we participated in Turkish Offseason. We were given Entrepreneurship award, 5000 dollar to be used in our efforts for Regional competition.At Orange County Regional we won the Judges’ Award. Also, Alara Değirmenci from Robert College was selected as FIRST Dean’s List Finalist. 2016 was again a successful. In 2017, we, as Robert College Robotics Club, decided that we gained enough experience of working cooperatively and aspiring other Turkish teams with our devotion to robotics. That was the start of the current team: ARC. 

What is FRC? 

The FIRST Robotics Competition is one of four robotics competition programs organized by FIRST, the other three being FIRST Lego League Jr., FIRST Lego League, and the FIRST Tech Challenge.

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weigh up to 120 pounds (54 kg). Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, flying discs into goals, inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. While teams are given a standard set of parts, they are also allowed a budget and are encouraged to buy or make specialized parts.

FIRST Robotics Competition has a unique culture, built around two values. “Gracious Professionalism” embraces the competition inherent in the program, but rejects trash talk and chest-thumping, instead embracing empathy and respect for other teams. “Coopertition” emphasizes that teams can cooperate and compete at the same time. The goal of the program is to inspire students to be science and technology leaders.

 

What is FIRST?

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, with inspiration and assistance from physicist and MIT professor emeritus Woodie Flowers. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

As the ARC, we believe that technology is the magic of the modern world, and the magicians of this century will be the ones who shape the future. Hence, our main purpose is to inspire and train the magicians of the future, by building science, engineering, and technology skills that inspire innovation while nourishing curiosity, creativity, perseverance, risk taking, openness, self confidence, communication, and leadership.

Networking

From our little maker-spaces in our schools, by taking advantage of the uniting power of social media, we have been communicating with FRC Teams from all around the world. Our well rounded use of various social media platforms, whether it is Facebook or Instagram, has enabled constant access to collaboration with other teams regardless of the thousands of miles between our schools. As our team is comprised of many different schools, we all had different accounts on social media. Now we have combined our forces to reach an even bigger audience.

Through social media we have been able to:

  • Receive and offer help to different FRC teams from all over the world during and after the build season.
  • Keep our sponsors and fans up to date on what we are up to everyday by sharing our progress on various platforms.
  • Reach more than 400 people through each Instagram post.

We also believe that the friends we made during the competitions and FRC events are essential. We are constantly in touch with the teams we had made friends with during the Kickoff, Offseason and NYC Regional. We are using the FRC Turkey WhatsApp group which we’ve created with other teams in order to communicate with the other teams.

We have been using the blessings the 21st century media offers us to the fullest, as it has provided us unlimited access to contact other teams to collaborate!

Future Purpose

In order to reach our community in the best ways possible and be active in every aspect of the society, we constantly come up with new projects! From planning community involvement projects to organizing hackathons our team intends to spread our innovative spirit as much as possible. The community involvement projects give us unique opportunities to influence children’s lives and welcome them into the tomorrow’s world



Tarihçemiz :

Takımımız RCRoboTeam adıyla 2015-2016 sezonunda kuruldu. Çaylak (rookie) bir takım olarak New York City Regional’da Rookie Inspiration ödülünü kazandık. İkinci yılımızda ise Saint Pulcherie Lisesinin robotik takımı ve diğer okullardan öğrencilerle  birleşerek 80 kişiyi bulan SPARC’ı oluşturduk. 2017-2018 sezonuna Robert Kolej öğrencilerinden oluşan bağımsız bir takım olarak katılmaya karar verdik ve ARC 6014 olarak çalışmalara başladık. ARC ismi, okulumuzun baş harflerinden oluşmakla birlikte logomuz, ejderhanın temsil ettiği dayanıklılık, asalet ve güçten gelmektedir. 2018-2019 sezonu takımımızın dördüncü sezonu olmasına rağmen ARC olarak geçirdiğimiz ikinci sezondur. İlk sezonunda Houston Şampiyonası’na gitmeye hak kazanmış ARC, çalışmalarına her geçen gün hızla devam etmekte, vizyonu ve misyonu doğrultusunda ilerlemektedir.

Anadolu Maker Hareketi’nden bu projeler için ürettiğimiz Arcopolis projesini üretmeye ve yaymaya, okulumuzda Kod Haftası gibi etkinlikler düzenlemekten bildiklerimizi çevremizdekilere öğretmeye takımımız, pek çok yöntemle yenilikçi ruhu çevresine yaymak için çabalıyor. Takımımızın, ilerleyen sezonlarda da harekete geçirdiğimiz bu çarkları işleyişini devam ettirmesini amaçlıyor, hem yenilikçi ve üretken bir ARC kültürü yaratmayı hedefliyor, hem de çevremize bir etki bırakmayı hedefliyoruz.  

Takımımız bu sezonda aktif olarak, devam ettirdiği ve geliştirdiği projelerin yanına, diğer takımlarla işbirliğini geliştirme ve teknoloji hakkındaki bilinci arttırma alanında çalışmalar yapmakta.

 

2018 Istanbul OffSeason, Gracious Professionalism Award

 

Duyarlı Profesyonellik hem takım içi hem diğer takımlar arası yüksek kaliteli çalışma yapmaya, başkalarına önem vermeye ve de bireylere ve topluluğa saygı duymaya teşvik etmektir. Takımımız bu ödülü, duyarlı profesyonellik ilke ve değerlerini FIRST ailesine tanıtmayı ve önemini belirtmeyi hedefleyen animasyon videosu sayesinde kazanmıştır.



2018 Istanbul Regional, Wildcard Award

 

Regional’da, Finalist İttifakı’nda olmakla beraber, Wild Card’lardan birine seçilerek Houston’daki FIRST Dünya Şampiyonası’nda rekabet etme hakkını kazandık. Wild Card Ödülü, Şampiyona için anahtardır ve takımımız ilk defa Houston Şampiyonası’na gitme hakkını kazanmıştır.



2018 Istanbul Regional, Finalist Award

 

Finalist Ödülü, takımın, İstanbul Regional’daki son maçta rekabet ettiğini gösterir. Yüksek performanslı robot ve yetenekli sürücü ekibimizle, yeterlilik maçlarında son sekize kalan takımlardan olduk. İttifak seçiminden sonra, Finalist Ödülünü almaya hak kazandıran final maçına çıktık.

 

2018 Istanbul Regional, Imagery Award

 

Jack Kamen onuruna verilen Imagery Ödülü, mühendisliğin estetik çekiciliğini ve rakip takımın makine ve takım görünümünün olağanüstü görsel estetik entegrasyonunu kutlamaktadır. Pembe pit alanımız ve tişörtlerimiz ile Regional boyunca çok dikkat çektik. Pembe ejderha maskotumuz diğer takımlarla tanışırken robotumuz Mr.Pink maçlarımıza çıktı. İnsanlara pembenin sadece bir renk değil, bir davranış biçimi olduğunu gösterdik. Göze çarpan görsel görünümümüz sayesinde Imagery Ödülü’nü kazanmaya hak kazandık.

 

2017 Istanbul Offseason

 

Diğer Türk takımlarıyla işbirliği yaparak ve öğretiğimiz kadar öğrenerek, Robert Kolej Robot Takımı olarak, kendi ekibimize ARC adıyla başlamaya karar verdik. Bu yıl yine Türkiye Offseason’a katıldık. Herhangi bir ödül alamamamız üzücüydü ancak, robotumuz yarışma boyunca muhteşem bir performans sergiledi. Bazı teknik zorluklar yaşadık, ancak ekibimiz 51’in takım arasından en iyi 3. takım olmayı başardı. Ayrıca, yarıştığımız neredeyse her maçta en yüksek puanları da elde etmeyi başardık.

 

2017 Orange County Regional, Dean’s List Award

 

Robert Kolej’den ekibimiz RC Roboteam, SPARC adında Sainte-Pulcherie Lisesi ile güçlerini birleştirdi. SPARC, Türkiye Offseason’a katıldı ve Girişimcilik Ödülü’nü kazandı. Offseason’daki çabalarımızdan dolayı 5000 dolarlık yarışma kayıt ücreti kazandık. SPARC daha sonra Orange County bölgesine Regional’da yarışmaya gitti ve sadece Judge Ödülü’nü kazanmakla kalmadı, aynı zamanda Robert Kolej’den Alara Değirmenci de Dean’in Listesi Finalisti seçildi.

 

Ekibimizin Offseason’daki çabaları ve performansının bir sonucu olarak, önemsediğimiz bir değer takdiri aldık.

 

2017 Orange County Regional, Judge’s Award

 

Orange County Regional, SPARC takımı olarak katıldığımız ikinci yarışma oldu. Sezonda takımımızda, bize katılmak ve takımı geliştirmek isteyen daha çok öğrenci aldık. Sınırlı bir süre içinde, bir takımdan daha fazlasına, bir aileye dönüştük. Orange County Regional’da çalışmalarımızın sonucu olarak Judge’s Award ile ödüllendirildik.

 

2016 November Turkish Offseason, Entrepreneurship Award

 

2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılının başında, ekibimiz SPARC’ı oluşturmak için Sainte Pulcherie Lisesi ile işbirliği yaptı. Geçtiğimiz seneden dolayı tecrübemiz vardı ve başarılı performans gösteren robotumuzu başarılı bir şekilde bir araya getirdik. Bunun yanı sıra, amacımız STEM ve Robotik bilgimizi Türkiye’deki diğer okullara yaymaktı. Takım hedefimize ulaşmak için, Türkiye çapında 10 farklı okuldan 80 öğrenciyi bir araya getirerek STEM ve Robotik bilgimizi yaymak ve Türkiye çapında yeni Robotik takımlarının oluşturulmasına yardımcı olmak için kapsamlı bir iş planı geliştirdik. Kendi kendini sürebilen bir program haline gelen SPARC ruhuna başladık. Güçlü desteğimizin oluşturduğu çaylak takımları artık Türkiye’nin farklı yerlerinden gelen öğrencilerin kendi Robotik takımlarını oluşturmalarına yardımcı oluyor. Oluşturduğumuz başarılı kendi kendini sürdürebilen program sayesinde Girişimcilik Ödülü’nü kazandık. Oluşturduğumuz yeni ekiplerin başarısından çok memnunuz ve STEM ve Robotics dünyasına başarılı bir şekilde girmeleriyle onur duyuyoruz.

 

2016 New York City Regional, Rookie Inspiration Award

 

İlk yılımızda, Ülker Sports Arena’da Fikret Yüksel Vakfı’nın ev sahipliğinde gerçekleşen FIRST Robotik Yarışması 2015 sezonunda etkileyici bir sürüş ve büyük bir kararlılıkla FRC yolculuğuna başladık. RC Roboteam, bu yarışmada Türkiye’nin en tutkulu takımlarından biriydi ve daha sonra Jacob K. Javits Kongre Merkezi’nde gerçekleşen New York City Regional 2016’da Türkiye’yi temsil etti. New York City Bölgesinde, RC Roboteam, saygılı ve olağanüstü bir başarıya sahip olan çaylak ekibine verilen Rookie İlham Ödülü’nü aldı. Bu ödül, takımımızın okulumuzda ve toplumumuzda hem mühendislik hem de mühendisler için takdiri arttırmaya yönelik çalışmalarını ödüllendirdi.

 

Ekibimiz edindiği bilgileri aktarmak için çeşitli projeler geliştirdi. Çocuklarla İlham Veren STEM Projelerimize, Sosyal Yapım Laboratuvarı ile ortaklığımız ve Aydın Topluluğu Katılım Projesi ile bilim ve teknoloji eğitimine odaklandık. Ne yazık ki, teknoloji alanına gelince büyük bir toplumsal cinsiyet arası fark fark ettik, bu yüzden de Türkiye’nin her yerinde teknolojiye dahil olmak için genç kadınlara ilham vererek bu bakış açısını değiştirmek istedik. Bu nedenle, bir grup genç kız öğrencinin Technovation’da “STEM’de Kadınlar” adlı bir projede rekabet etmesine yol göstererek yardımcı olduk.

Our ROBOTS

FIRST Power Up

Our robot was fully focused on completing the power cube tasks. Thanks to its intake mechanism, which was composed of 2 elastic wheels that were powerfully rotated by redline motors, the cubes would vacuum into our robot’s arm.

 

These cubes would then be propelled towards the power-up cube opening parallel to the ground, rotated just a little bit by our expansive arm to drop it into the switch, or by a large margin to drop it into the scale. In any way, this could only be achieved by using powerful gear motors that were attached to the shaft of the aluminum profile arms. Our approach while building this robot was to maximize its reliability and effectiveness so that we would trust our robot, as well as ourselves, to perform at its best in every match.

This robot is specialized in receiving gears from the Loading Lanes and bringing them to the airships. It can climb the airships using a one-way bearing mechanism.

The climbing mechanism is equipped with a hook and loop fastener system for a stronger grip. Pink Panther is the combination of engineering excellence and simplicity. This specific design enables the efficient performance both on delivering gears and getting on the airship on time. One of the most important aspects of Pink Panther is its wooden gear collecting mechanism. As wood is light, compared to aluminum, Pink Panther is able to move faster than any other robot. It has six tires and uses four CIM Motors to move. The climbing mechanism is the best that has been designed: Climbing time of 6 seconds through the 1.2- meter rope. Pink Panther was designed in three weeks, drawn using SolidWorks. It was built in two weeks and completed in a total of six weeks including the final touches.

 Mrs. Robort could receive balls from human players and shoot them into the goals. A vertical elevator lifted the balls and sended them to the shooting mechanism. Two rotating cylinders gripped and accelerated the balls.

FRC Game: FIRST Power Up

Specification: This robot successfully placed power cubes to the switches and into the vault. With its rapid intake mechanism made of 2 elastic wheels rotated by redline motors our robot could control an average of 9 power cubes per game. Not aiming for the scale enabled this robot to be small, the robot’s base perimeter are 0.60 m to 0.62 m and the height of the robot is 0.50. The small base parameter and height enables the robot to be lighter and faster compared to other robots, moreover makes it easier to climb on a ramp during the endgame.

Our Projects

Anatolian Maker Movement

As individuals born into the age of technology, we need to keep up with developments and changes to increase our productivity. We need to learn how to code just as we know the alphabet, and produce products that will maximize our life standards. In order to ensure the development and progression of our country, we should give technological trainings to children at an early age, and increase their scientific approaches with supporting materials.  

With this aim we started a project called “Anatolian Maker Movement” and started worked on  spreading the maker movement to the rural areas of Turkey. Our first stop was Merzifon. Between 18-22 June 2018, as eighteen Robert College students and two advisors, we began our project. During this one week, we had three different focuses: STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), English and creative activities.

We had the English lessons in the morning where we taught English in the most interactive way possible. Not only were we able to create games that worked perfectly with the English curriculum of the students, but also made posters and projects that encouraged them to actively participate in the aim of developing their English levels. Next, we worked with the students on subjects such as Drama, Destination Imagination, Sports, and Music. The children were able to experience all four of these activities and decide upon which one they would like to work with in their upcoming days. Once decided, they were in that group for a week and worked towards the developing their skills on the subject. Our main focus, STEM education, was given after the lunch break to make sure the students had a high energy to focus on the most important part of our project. Our priority in these lessons were to show the students that they could actually code all the games they were playing, and could make anything they wished with coding including simulation, story-building and interactive art. We distributed the books that our sponsors had given us on a basic coding language called “Scratch” (a visual programming language designed for children by the University of Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and worked on these books for our education.

ARCOPOLIS

Arcopolis is a board game for children aged between 8-12, which has the theme “engineering”. The main purposes of the game is to teach children the broad field that engineers work in. Using fun facts, pictures and new vocabulary about engineering, we hope to create interest in children for engineering. 

Producing several copies of this game, writing a detailed manual, and donating them to primary schools, we aim to light a sparkle in them which will hopefully turn into a fire soon. We always aim to improve,and find new ways to include children into the engineering field enthusiastically. In other words, we aim to make engineering a child’s game!

ARC Footprints

ARC Footprints project consists of short videos, which we aim to share our experience, knowledge and advices that we think might help other teams and new FIRST members. We wish to make videos in every area of interest.

Braille Menu

In our journey in which we as ARC 6014, strive to use technology as a way to reach out to the community and use it for change and improvement we accomplished a new project. 

After we learnt that when blind citizens get out to eat, some corporations try to sell the remainders to them rather than listing them what is on the menu, we decided to work on a project to eradicate the situation. We started a project in Café TriBeCa in which we 3D printed menus with the Braille alphabet. With this project we hope that we will be able to reach to blind people and help them get integrated in the community without facing challenges and without needing anyone else. As a robotics team we never considered technology as a consumptive thing but rather a way to improve other people’s lives.

Scouting App

We observed the significance of scouting throughout our experiences in various tournaments. Taking notes on paper or using a google form might be useful upto some extent, yet, the development of a common platform that is available for the all team members would be crucial.

Prosthetic Legs

Inspired from Hasan Bey, a beautiful hearted young man who tried to help animals without legs, as a team, we wanted to develop this idea. We immediately contacted with him, telling that we are here to help him as much as we could. After getting positive messages from him, we immediately got to work. 

Watching tons of videos about dogs and cats without leg, we wanted to integrate our desire to help and out knowledge about technology. Instead of working with metals, we designed prosthetics on Solidworks, specific to each animal in the animal shelter we come together to work. Printing these designs by using our 3D printer, we later on added necessary equipments, such as wheels,  to each prosthetics. Till now, we managed to reach 5 animals with our designs. However, our aim is to reach 3 animals per week, 12 per month. That way we can help them feel better to be in life

Code Week

Code Week is an event that celebrates the innovative culture and the passion for exploration in our school. It is similar to RC Maker Faire in nature, but it is more focused on introducing programming to the students in our school. 

Some of the activities in this week includes programming a robot to solve a maze, flying automated drones, learning 3D design and printing, mobile app development, Arduino programming and an automated sumo robot fight. There are also additional presentations from different engineers and organizations to motivate students and show the diversity of this field’s applications.As ARC, we helped RC Makers to organize the event and give workshops about robotics, coding and virtual reality to our friends. We also gave workshops on FRC and FLL to increase interest and participation in FIRST competitions. In the last 2 years, the event was very successful and helped many people get interested in robotics and computer science. We were surprised to find that many people who were not interested in electrical engineering, 3d design or computer science at first came to us and asked for how they can contribute to RC Makers Club and ARC. The number of applications to both of our clubs increased, and many people discussed the importance of these skills.

Inspirational STEM Projects with Children

At ARC Robotics, we believe in the utmost importance of the Maker and Programming education. Unfortunately, this is an area that still needs to be developed both in Turkey and in the entire world. We sadly note that coding and Maker education is not taught in many schools all around the world. 

Thus our main aim is to get more children and young people educated and inspired by the Maker movement By teaching kids and young people all around Turkey about programming and encouraging them about learning more about these topics as well as about pursuing a career in technology, we also aim to raise an involvement about technology. We want to reach out to as many young people as possible, so we organize trainings and workshops all around Turkey.

Aydın Community Involvement Project

During the summer of 2017, ARC Robotics team members actively participated in various community involvement projects, one of which took place in Germencik, Aydın.

This project aimed to work with elementary and middle school kids in fields such as art, drama, sports, music and technology. During one week of the project; we helped kids discover new passions, develop communication skills and get inspired.

 

 

All of the 100 kids that attended the project had the chance to get to know STEM. Our main goal was to teach them the basics of coding, completing activities with technologies and getting more knowledgeable in science. As we completed the projects in rural parts of Turkey, we aimed to inspire children to pursue STEM later on and also empower girls to get more involved technology.

 

 

Each children stepped into the room with a little shyness, yet a lot of curiosity as they looked at the gadgets before them. With each activity, they became more familiar with technology.

 

 

We helped kids “travel” all around the world to see great monuments with Virtual Reality glasses from their small hometown. We saw how their eyes sparkled when they were introduced to this new technology. Combining music and fun, the kids completed activities with Makey Makey. We were able to complete 10 science experiments altogether. With each experiment; we had the chance to discover the complex scientific background behind simple experiments, such as pepper and soap experiment or the non newtonian fluid which is starch and water.It was an incredible experience as we saw the excitement of the kids as they coded many games using Scratch. From football games to concerts, they coded their favourite events and hobbies. At the end of the project, a couple of kids were sure that they wanted to become game developers! As we inspired kids to pursue STEM in the future, we also helped them grasp the ideals of FIRST.Take a look at the games our project participants have created at At the end of the 5 day workshop, the kids presented their final coding project to their families at the final show.

 

Our Partnership with Social Maker Lab

Besides our school’s and team’s projects, ours team members also take part in and cooperate with other social organizations such as Social Maker Lab. 

With their slogan “Maker Movement for Social Good”, Social Maker Lab is an organization which brings together makers to solve the problems in our community. Whilst solving social challenges through technology, Social Maker. Lab also aims to inspire others to come up with solutions, products, and ideas. Our most recent project was 3D printing a graduation yearbook for a school for the visually impaired. The graduates of the school were able to see the faces of their classmates for the first time after 8 years.

 

Community Involvement Projects at School

Every Saturday, we kick the day off with our tech workshop for Romanian kids living in Istanbul. We host 15-20 kids, aged between 10-15, from Kuştepe Roman Sanatevi. Our workshops take place at our school’s computer lab. 

We plan our workshops according to the age group and their acquaintance with technology. Our workshops include coding a labyrinth game in Scratch, using Makey Makey to have fun while learning about conductivity, experiencing different cities and riding roller coasters with Google cardboard virtual reality glasses. We hope that this was a fun week for all of the kids as they made a transition into life. With these workshops and many others, we hope to inspire children about STEM through fun and educational activities. As ARC, we believe these community projects have a huge effect on creating a cultivating environment in which we hope to inspire kids to become pioneers in the fields of science and technology.

Books and Clothing Donations

We collaborated with our school’s Interact club to organize a charity event in which we donated our unused team shirts and sweatshirts to underprivileged primary school kids in Kars. We wrote a letter on who we are, what we do, what FIRST is and how they can pursue STEM. 

We also collected books from our team members to help build a library at the school in Kars. From story books to poetry, from science books to novels, we collected many books that will help introduce our friends at Kars to new worlds and get them inspired. We added handwritten notes to every book, hoping that it will help the students guide their way towards success. We as the Robert College family wanted to create a library for you. We brought together the books we enjoyed reading, hoping that you will enjoy them as well. Our greatest wish is that you can discover new worlds and meet new points of view by reading these books. In a discussion we had among our robotics team we all concluded on the idea that books were the most important things that encouraged us to ask questions, be curious and to make research. Whether in literature, art, science, maths or technology books always create a place for us to learn more about the subjects we are interested in. We hope that through these books you will discover new worlds and learn to understand new concepts. You can also improve yourselves and challenge your limits by advancing in science, technology or any other subject. Enjoy reading!

Women in STEM: Technovation

Sadly recognizing the major gender gap when it comes to women in the technology field, we want to create a change by inspiring young females all around Turkey to get involved in technology. We believe that in order to achieve this goal we need to break the existing prejudice against the idea that “women don’t or can’t code” and we believe that education is key to breaking prejudice. 

We also believe that international competitions can be a great opportunity for girls to get motivated and to do their best. We think that Technovation, a competition that is only for females students all around the world, which offers online programming courses throughout the competition, is a great start for girls’ technology education and career. In cooperation with Social Maker Lab, we organize workshops and events where we inform girls from public schools about this competition and help them through the process in order to encourage them to take part in this international competition.

Community Projects in Manisa

Manisa-Gördes CIP is one of the community impact projects that we have. After being very successful in Manisa, we decided to continue to inspire more children. Thus, we created a new type of STEM project, where we can reach several kids, who come from public schools and do not have any opportunity to get in touch with technology, on weekends. 

On each weekend, we aimed to work with different kids from the same school. After seeing different kids with their different levels of curiosity to technology or engineering, we will decide to work with the ones, who are more enthusiastic and interested in technology. We will lead establishment of a new robotics team with these children. Moreover, we will work with them as a mentor, when they decide to make their own robot. Depending on the outcome of this project, we would maintain this impact with Syrian refugees. Because most of them do not know Turkish very well, we decided to perform Syrian Children Project after we get success with our current STEM CIP. But it is one of our priority to be able to accomplish such difficult project.

Collaborations with Other Clubs

One of our team’s main goal is to enlighten students as weider as we can go. As a team, we started by having collaboration with other clubs in our school. By these collaborations we have with other clubs, we try to show the huge area that technology may have a big impact on. 

For example, with Junior Achievement Club one of our team member, Can İvit, created a product named “Charger Aid”, which was designed a product that prevents charge cable from being eroded. We also learnt lots of things from these collaborations we had with other teams. For instance, RC Makers and our team worked together in various activities, such as RC Makers Faire and Coding Week. In these events we did together; we learnt how to share, how to enlarge our team and how to use different intelligence in a specific goal.

Other Projects

Advertisement and networking are very important for us since we are trying to spread the innovative spirit and make people aware of what we enjoy doing. To reach more people from the community, we are planning to set up stands in malls and meet new people, introduce ourselves ⎯our team formed by young programmers, engineers and designers. We can reach many people and perhaps inspire them to be a part of our community. We can help them and also get help from them.

 

This year we change our regionals policy and stay in Turkey in order to make our network even stronger. We will walk on this way with the teams we’re already in touch and with the others we will meet soon! We can’t wait to join the Turkey regionals this year and have fun!

2018 Istanbul OffSeason, Gracious Professionalism Award

Gracious Professionalism is encouraging high-quality work —both inside the team and among the teams—, appreciating the value of others, and respecting individuals and the community. We won this award due to our animation video which aims to introduce and emphasise these values throughout the FIRST community.

2018 Istanbul Regional, Wildcard Award

As we were in the Finalist Alliance, we were also selected for one of the Wild Cards of the Regional, receiving the right to compete in the FIRST World Championship in Houston. Wild Card Award is our key for Championship and now we are getting ready to compete in Houston

2018 Istanbul Regional, Finalist Award

Finalist Award recognizes the Alliance competing in the final match of the Regional. With our highly performing robot and talented drive team, we became the eight team at the end of the qualification matches. After alliance selection, we made it to the final match of the competition, winning the Finalist Award.

2018 Istanbul Regional, Imagery Award

Imagery Award in honor of Jack Kamen celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration of machine and team appearance in the competition. With our pink pit area and sweatshirts, we attracted a lot of attention throughout the Regional. As our pink dragon mascot meets with other teams and our robot Mr. Pink competed in the matches, we showed people that pink is not only a color but an attitude, winning the Imagery Award for our outstanding visual appearance.

2017 Istanbul Offseason

By working cooperatively with other Turkish teams and learning as much as we’ve thought, as Robert College Robotics Team, we decided to start our own team with the name of ARC. This year we participated in Turkish Offseason again. It was saddening that we weren’t able to get any awards; however, our robot performed magnificently throughout the competition. We had some technical difficulties, but our team managed to place as the 3rd best team out of 51. We also managed to get the most match points out of all the teams that competed.

2017 Orange County Regional, Dean’s List Award

In the following year, our team from Robert College combined strengths with Lycee Sainte-Pulcherie with a name called SPARC. SPARC participated in Turkish Offseason and won the Entrepreneurship award. This was very important as the team was given 5000 dollars for all of its efforts in the Regional Competition. SPARC then traveled to Orange County Regional and not only won the Judges’ Award but also had a student, Alara Değirmenci from Robert College, to be selected as Dean’s List Finalist.

As a result of our team’s efforts and performance in the Offseason, we were given a merit recognition, which we appreciated deeply.

2017 Orange County Regional, Judge’s Award

Orange County Regional was the second time we were participating in a competition as the team SPARC. This time we had more students in our team each willing to participate and improve the team. In a limited amount of time, we became more than a team, a family.

2016 November Turkish Offseason, Entrepreneurship Award

At the beginning of 2016-2017 school year, our team has collaborated with Sainte Pulcherie to form SPARC. We had experience from last year and were able to build nicely-performing robots successfully. Besides this, our aim was to spread our STEM and Robotics knowledge to other schools in Turkey. By gathering 80 students from 10 different schools around Turkey, we developed a comprehensive business plan to achieve our team objective, spreading our STEM and Robotics knowledge, and help the creation of new Robotics teams around Turkey. We started the SPARC spirit, which has become a self-sustaining program. The rookie teams which were formed by our mighty support are now helping other students from different places around Turkey to create their own Robotics teams. We won the Entrepreneurship Award for the successful self-sustaining program we created. We are delighted by the success of the new teams we formed, and we are honored by their successful entry to the world of STEM and Robotics.

2016 New York City Regional, Rookie Inspiration Award

In its first year, the club started its journey with great drive and determination and competed in FIRST Robotics Competition Off-Season 2015 hosted by the Fikret Yüksel Foundation at Ulker Sports Arena. Here, RC Roboteam was one of the most passionate teams in Turkey, later representing Turkey in the FIRST Robotics Competition 2016 New York City Regional which took place at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. In New York City Regional, RC Roboteam was awarded the Rookie Inspiration Award, an award given to a rookie team that had an outstanding success for their respect, and creating the appreciation for both engineering and engineers within their school and their community.

Our team worked really hard to transfer the knowledge it gained. For this, we had different projects. We focused on science and technology education with our Inspirational STEM Projects with children, our partnership with Social Maker Lab, and Aydın Community Involvement Project. Unfortunately, we also recognized the major gender gap when it comes to the technology field, so we wanted to change things by inspiring young females all around Turkey to get involved in technology. So we motivated and helped a group of young girls to compete in Technovation in a project called Women in STEM

OUR ROBOTS

12 hOURs

Our robot for Istanbul Off-Season 2018 was designed to both play the scale and switches. Due to our unfortunate building time of only 12 hours, our team could only assemble a part of the elevator system. 

Even though this prevented us from playing the scale, it wasn’t an impediment to play the switches. In fact, our robot did great while taking in the cubes and dropping them off in these switches. The elevator system was mostly reliable and also quite fast when need be. Our newly developed intake system was also a contributing factor to the performance of our robot. Its arms had a wide range of motion while incorporating a fully in-house gearbox mechanism that tilted back the intake up to a little more than a 90-degree angle. This movement allowed us to hold on to the cubes without having any possible risk of dropping them. It should also be mentioned that our team was planning to have a custom drive base; however, there were some unexpected problems for the manufacturing of these parts, and we didn’t have sufficient time for a solution. All in all, this was the most complex robot we have built so far which made use of custom gearboxes, chains, and an elevator system.

FIRST Power Up

Our robot was fully focused on completing the power cube tasks. Thanks to its intake mechanism, which was composed of 2 elastic wheels that were powerfully rotated by redline motors, the cubes would vacuum into our robot’s arm.

 

These cubes would then be propelled towards the power-up cube opening parallel to the ground, rotated just a little bit by our expansive arm to drop it into the switch, or by a large margin to drop it into the scale. In any way, this could only be achieved by using powerful gear motors that were attached to the shaft of the aluminum profile arms. Our approach while building this robot was to maximize its reliability and effectiveness so that we would trust our robot, as well as ourselves, to perform at its best in every match.

Mr. Pink

This robot is specialized in receiving gears from the Loading Lanes and bringing them to the airships. It can climb the airships using a one-way bearing mechanism.

The climbing mechanism is equipped with a hook and loop fastener system for a stronger grip. Pink Panther is the combination of engineering excellence and simplicity. This specific design enables the efficient performance both on delivering gears and getting on the airship on time. One of the most important aspects of Pink Panther is its wooden gear collecting mechanism. As wood is light, compared to aluminum, Pink Panther is able to move faster than any other robot. It has six tires and uses four CIM Motors to move. The climbing mechanism is the best that has been designed: Climbing time of 6 seconds through the 1.2- meter rope. Pink Panther was designed in three weeks, drawn using SolidWorks. It was built in two weeks and completed in a total of six weeks including the final touches.

FRC Game: FIRST Steamworks

This robot was built when RC Robotics was part of a larger team called SPARC. It could carry gears to the airship and climb during the End Game. It could also carry fuel to the low target and dump it.

FRC Game: Rack'n Roll

This robot could place toroidal game pieces onto a metal contraption which is in the middle of the playing field. It had a long gripper between two panels, which were used to lift other robots during the End Game.

Mrs. Robort

 Mrs. Robort could receive balls from human players and shoot them into the goals. A vertical elevator lifted the balls and sended them to the shooting mechanism. Two rotating cylinders gripped and accelerated the balls.

 

Mr. Robort

Mr. Robort could shoot the boulders at high and low tower goals. It could cross many defenses including the Portcullis, the Moat, the Drawbridge and the Low Bar.

About ARC #6014

Our team has its roots in RC Roboteam, established in 2015. In 2015, we participated in Turkish Offseason and New York City Regional and won the Rookie Inspiration award in the New York City Regional. A year after, we expanded and became a new team SPaRC: A joint team consisting of Lycee Sainte-Pulcherie and Robert College. The teams united to make the best use of their strengths. As SPaRC, we participated in Turkish Offseason. We were given Entrepreneurship award, 5000 dollar to be used in our efforts for Regional competition.At Orange County Regional we won the Judges’ Award. Also, Alara Değirmenci from Robert College was selected as FIRST Dean’s List Finalist. 2016 was again a successful. In 2017, we, as Robert College Robotics Club, decided that we gained enough experience of working cooperatively and aspiring other Turkish teams with our devotion to robotics. That was the start of the current team: ARC. 

What is FRC? 

The FIRST Robotics Competition is one of four robotics competition programs organized by FIRST, the other three being FIRST Lego League Jr., FIRST Lego League, and the FIRST Tech Challenge.

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weigh up to 120 pounds (54 kg). Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, flying discs into goals, inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. While teams are given a standard set of parts, they are also allowed a budget and are encouraged to buy or make specialized parts.

FIRST Robotics Competition has a unique culture, built around two values. “Gracious Professionalism” embraces the competition inherent in the program, but rejects trash talk and chest-thumping, instead embracing empathy and respect for other teams. “Coopertition” emphasizes that teams can cooperate and compete at the same time. The goal of the program is to inspire students to be science and technology leaders.

 

What is FIRST?

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, with inspiration and assistance from physicist and MIT professor emeritus Woodie Flowers. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

  • Creating innovative projects in our club in technological and scientific areas, especially robotics;

Networking

From our little maker-spaces in our schools, by taking advantage of the uniting power of social media, we have been communicating with FRC Teams from all around the world. Our well rounded use of various social media platforms, whether it is Facebook or Instagram, has enabled constant access to collaboration with other teams regardless of the thousands of miles between our schools. As our team is comprised of many different schools, we all had different accounts on social media. Now we have combined our forces to reach an even bigger audience.

Through social media we have been able to:

  • Receive and offer help to different FRC teams from all over the world during and after the build season.
  • Keep our sponsors and fans up to date on what we are up to everyday by sharing our progress on various platforms.
  • Reach more than 400 people through each Instagram post.

We also believe that the friends we made during the competitions and FRC events are essential. We are constantly in touch with the teams we had made friends with during the Kickoff, Offseason and NYC Regional. We are using the FRC Turkey WhatsApp group which we’ve created with other teams in order to communicate with the other teams.

We have been using the blessings the 21st century media offers us to the fullest, as it has provided us unlimited access to contact other teams to collaborate!

Future Purpose

In order to reach our community in the best ways possible and be active in every aspect of the society, we constantly come up with new projects! From planning community involvement projects to organizing hackathons our team intends to spread our innovative spirit as much as possible. The community involvement projects give us unique opportunities to influence children’s lives and welcome them into the tomorrow’s world

TEAM VISION

As ARC 6014, we believe that technology is the magic of the modern world, and the magicians of this century will be the ones who shape the future. Hence, our main purpose is to inspire and train the magicians of the future by building STEM skills that inspire innovation while nourishing curiosity, creativity, perseverance, risk-taking, openness, self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

About Us

Our team has its roots in RC Roboteam, established in 2015. In 2015, we participated in Turkish Offseason and New York City Regional and won the Rookie Inspiration award in the New York City Regional. A year after, we expanded and became a new team SPaRC: A joint team consisting of Lycee Sainte-Pulcherie and Robert College. The teams united to make the best use of their strengths. As SPaRC, we participated in Turkish Offseason. We were given Entrepreneurship award, 5000 dollar to be used in our efforts for Regional competition.
